Master's level Social Work clinicians can earn a Clinical Supervision Certificate, gain 20 Continuing Education Contact Hours (at least 4 of which are Ethics Hours), and network with other clinical supervisors in New Bern, NC. Cybertraps for the Young seminar will be held on May 3, 2013 from 9 am - 4 pm at Wayside Christian Mission-Hotel Louisville.
This seminar will look at the legal trouble that teens and pre-teens can get into through the use and misuse of electronic devices, and advice for parents on how to minimize the risks and protect their children. The morning session will lay the theoretical framework including an overview of technology and computer forensics while the afternoon session will focus on the practical side including types of crimes and how to work with defense attorneys.
About the Presenter:
Fred Lane is an author, attorney, expert witness, and professional speaker on the legal and cultural implications of emerging technology. After graduating from Amherst College and Boston College Law School, he clerked for two years for the Honorable Frank H. Freedman, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court in Massachusetts. After practicing law for five years and writing his first book, Vermont Jury Instructions -- Civil and Criminal (with John Dinse and Ritchie Berger), he launched a computer consulting business that in time led to his current work as a computer forensics expert and author.

The MS Chapter's annual statewide conference, "Weaving Threads of Resilience and Advocacy", is scheduled for March 21-22, 2013 in Natchez, MS in recognition of National Social Work Month. Among the 36 educational workshops offered during the conference will be a 3 hour session on March 22 for advanced practitioners entitled "Brain-Based Social Work Practice: How Neuroscience is Revolutionizing How We Help Children and Families Heal". Nicholas Rutledge, LCSW, QCSW, Trauma Educator & Clinical Instructor, University of Southern Mississippi School of Social Work, will present the workshop.

The Oregon Chapter presents a workshop on March 1, 2013 from 9-4:30, "Legal and Ethical Issues in Social Work" in Portland. This program is designed to educate private practitioners about the legal and ethical considerations regarding documentation as it relates to improving the quality of patient care and the reduction of risk. Participants in this program will learn the legal and ethical issues relating to abuse reporting, including child, elder and developmentally disabled abuse reporting. This program will cover access to healthcare records in both paper and electronic formats, as well as the use and disclosure of protected health information. This program will present ethical considerations on how to avoid common Board complaints, and how to ethically cooperate with the investigation process.
