NASW Celebrates Black History Month

2011 Delegate Assembly: Member Participation Requested

The triennial Delegate Assembly is upon us and is being conducted primarily online, with the culminating meeting to be held Aug. 5-6 using a custom-designed Web and teleconference platform. All members can be part of the process and most activities, whether or not you are a delegate. New materials are being posted to the DA website regularly.

The primary focus at this time is the public and professional policies and the 2012–2015 Program Priority Goals. All members are encouraged to review the revised policies and Program Priority Goals and post comments. The policies are used to guide NASW at the national and chapter level and to inform the public, media, educators and legislators about our positions on key issues. Final delegate-approved versions of the policies will be published in the next edition of Social Work Speaks.

Hearing panels for the 18 policies up for revision and the proposed Program Priority Goals are scheduled through April. Delegate panelists will review all posted comments before making revisions and reposting them for review and comment.

Foundation Offers Scholarships, Research Awards

The NASW Foundation will be accepting applications through March 31, 2011, for its 2011-2012 fellowships, scholarships and research awards. For details: NASW Foundation; e-mail; (202) 408-8600, ext. 504.

Membership Dues Income Tax Deduction

Members who qualify to deduct membership dues payments from income taxes should note the following:
For the calendar year ending Dec. 31, 2010, 10.17 percent of the annual NASW dues payment is not deductible. The percentage is based on the amount of association lobbying activity in 2010.
For tax planning purposes, the nondeductible portion of the NASW dues payment to be made for the calendar year ending Dec. 31, 2011, is estimated to be 9.99 percent.
