Membership Dues Income Tax Deduction

Members who qualify to deduct membership dues payments from income taxes should note the following:
For tax year 2008, 10.13 percent of the annual NASW dues payment is not deductible. The percentage is based on the amount of association lobbying activity in 2008.
For tax planning purposes, the nondeductible portion of the NASW dues payment to be made in tax year 2009 is 10.66 percent.

Nominees Sought for Recognition Awards

NASW and the NASW Foundation are accepting nominations through April 17, 2009, for the 2009 National Recognition Awards. Awards include: NASW - Social Worker of the Year, Public Citizen of the Year, Public Elected Official of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award; Foundation - Rhoda G. Sarnat Award, Knee/Wittman Health and Mental Health Achievement Awards.

Foundation Offers Scholarships, Research Awards

The NASW Foundation is accepting applications through March 13, 2009, for its 2009-2010 fellowships, scholarships and research awards: Jane B. Aron Doctoral Fellowship; Eileen Blackey Doctoral Fellowship; Consuelo W. Gosnell Memorial MSW Scholarships; Verne LaMarr Lyons Memorial MSW Scholarship; Ruth Fizdale Award. Sanctions in Force Listed Online

NASW adjudicates certain allegations of violations of its Code of Ethics by members, and if violations are found, may impose sanctions. For the list of sanctions of public notification imposed within the past 10 years that remain in force: Sanctions in Force

Log On to the NASW Web Site

Access members-only resources and information, update your member profile, and change your NASW username and password. Go to www.socialworkers.org, click "Log In," and enter your NASW username and password. Click "Member Center" to update your email, address, phone number, and mail preferences, and change your username and password.

Renewal Courtesy Calls

In order to better reach our members, who lead very busy lives, NASW has added renewal courtesy calls to the membership renewal process. These courtesy calls will be made around the time of your membership expiration date as a helpful reminder to renew your NASW membership so you continue your benefits uninterrupted. You will be able to renew your membership immediately over the phone, as well as renew your ACSW credential or Specialty Practice Sections membership. If you prefer to renew online instead, or via the renewal invoice mailed to you, please do. It is an exciting time to be an NASW member, and we are making every effort to make sure you are a part of it.
