Correction

The February story on the White House Conference on Aging erroneously indicated that Cynthia Stuen, a delegate to the conference, chairs NASW's Specialty Practice Section on Aging. Stuen is the section's former chair. The current chair is Forrest Hong.

NASW Election Ballots Mailing

Ballots for the election of NASW board and nominations committee members are being mailed this month. All candidates' information will be enclosed and will be on NASW's Web site. Online voting will be an option.To vote online, please use the PIN number from your paper ballot.

ACSW Supervision Requirement Changed

NASW's Board of Directors voted in late January to change one of the criteria members must meet to qualify for Academy of Certified Social Workers (ACSW) certification, allowing supervision by MSWs regardless of whether they hold other voluntary certifications. Previous criteria called for "two years of social work supervision by a social worker with at least an ACSW, QCSW [or] DCSW," referring to post-MSW credentials issued by NASW. The new supervision criterion reads, "Two years of [post-MSW] social work supervision by a social worker with at least an MSW." This will help meet the needs of rural social workers. Taxes and Membership Dues Deductibility

Members who qualify to deduct membership dues payments from income taxes should note the following:
For tax year 2005, 12.99 percent of the annual NASW dues payment is not deductible. The percentage is based on the amount of association lobbying activity in 2005.
For tax planning purposes, the nondeductible portion of the NASW dues payment to be made in tax year 2006 is 12.53 percent.

Nominees Sought for Recognition Awards

NASW and the NASW Foundation are accepting nominations through April 14, 2006, for the 2006 National Recognition Awards.

Awards include: NASW— Social Worker of the Year, Public Citizen of the Year, Public Elected Official, Lifetime Achievement Award; Foundation— International Rhoda G. Sarnat Award, Knee/Wittman Health and Mental Health Achievement Awards.

Foundation Offers Fellowship, Scholarship Awards

The NASW Foundation is accepting applications through March 17, 2006, for its 2006-2007 fellowships and scholarships: Jane B. Aron Doctoral Fellowship; Consuelo W. Gosnell Memorial MSW Scholarships; Verne LaMarr Lyons Memorial MSW Scholarship.
