Correction

A November "Social Work in the Public Eye" item gave an incorrect affiliation for Siri Jayaratne. He is associate dean of faculty and academic affairs and professor of social work at the University of Michigan School of Social Work.

2005 Slate

Petitions for additions to the slate for the 2005 election of NASW national board and nominations committee members will be due within 30 days of posting of the slate on NASW's Web site. Only persons considered for the slate, but not nominated, may be added by petition. Rules for petition submission are stated in NASW's bylaws Article IX.B.2.e. For the 2005 slate, check the governance page in late December 2004 or January 2005.

Tax Notice

Members who qualify to deduct membership dues payments from income taxes should note the following:
For tax year 2004, 11.74 percent of the annual NASW dues payment is not deductible. The percentage is based on the amount of association lobbying activity in 2004.
For tax planning purposes, the nondeductible portion of the NASW dues payment to be made in tax year 2005 is 11.56 percent.

Recognition Awards

NASW is accepting nominations for its 2005 national awards. The awards honor social workers and other individuals who through their work or advocacy have advanced the principles and vision of the profession. Awards include Social Worker of the Year, Public Citizen of the Year, Public Elected Official and Lifetime Achievement Award. For details and nomination package: NASW homepage. The NASW Foundation is accepting nominations for the International Rhoda G. Sarnat Award and the Knee/Wittman Health and Mental Health Achievement Awards. For details and nomination package: NASW Foundation. The deadline for submitting a complete nomination package is April 15, 2005. Late nominations will not be accepted.
