Correction

A September story on NASW President Gary Bailey's activity at the Democratic National Convention misreported the identity of the family member of Sen. John Kerry with whom Bailey met. He met with Kerry S. Fulmer, Sen. Kerry's cousin, who is an active NASW member in Tennessee. She was the subject of Bailey's statement about being "very willing to talk to us and very helpful at making sure social workers were visible." Bailey did not meet with George Kaler of New York, also a social worker and relative of Sen. Kerry's.

Workforce Study

NASW and the Center for Health Workforce Studies at the University at Albany, State University of New York, are conducting the first comprehensive study documenting the role of social workers in a range of service settings. This study, a random sample of licensed social workers across the country, will be conducted from September until November 2004. Data from the study will clarify social workers' role in providing social services and will guide policy and planning efforts to assure that an appropriately trained social work workforce will be in place to meet the needs of the country's rapidly changing population. Child Abuse Study

NASW is supporting the Fourth National Incidence Study of Child Abuse and Neglect (NIS-4), mandated by the Keeping Children and Families Safe Act of 2003. The study tracks the number of children abused or neglected in the U.S. NIS-4 will involve 1,700 agencies and 12,000 individuals. Agency recruitment began in September. Sanctions in Force

NASW adjudicates certain allegations of violations of its Code of Ethics by members, and if violations are found, may impose sanctions. For the current list of sanctions of public notification imposed within the past 10 years that remain in force: Sanctions in Force.

Use Internet Explorer for Windows: The NASW Web site and its subsites are optimized for Internet Explorer for Windows, the most popular browser used on the Internet. You can use other browsers, such as AOL's, Netscape Navigator or Apple's Safari browser for Mac OS X. But 97 percent of visitors to NASW's sites use Internet Explorer for Windows, and it will display the sites' graphics and text more accurately.

Get Plugged In: Many Web sites, including NASW's, enhance users' experience by adding interactive features through browser plug-ins. The most common ones are available as free downloads - Macromedia's Flash plug-in and Adobe Reader for viewing PDF documents (click the "Get Adobe Reader" button).
