Assembly Online

Members can review and comment online on NASW public and professional policy statements automatically referred for revision to the 2005 Delegate Assembly. Members also will be able to review and comment on other proposals as they are posted on NASW's special Web site for the 2005 Delegate Assembly.

As noted in the November 2003 NASW News, all proposed and revised policy statements, bylaws revisions and program priority goals and all other information about the Delegate Assembly process will be published only on this Web site between now and the convening of the Assembly in July 2005.

Recognition Awards

NASW is accepting nominations for its 2004 national awards. The awards honor social workers and other individuals who through their work or advocacy have advanced the principles and vision of the profession. Awards, and those who may submit nominations for them, are:

Social Worker of the Year - NASW chapters only
Public Citizen of the Year - NASW chapters, individuals and social welfare organizations
Public Elected Official - NASW chapters and members, individuals, and social welfare organizations
Lifetime Achievement Award - NASW chapters and individuals

The NASW Foundation is accepting nominations for:

The International Rhoda G. Sarnat Award - Given to an individual, group or organization that has significantly advanced the public image of professional social work. The award recipient receives a cash prize of $3,000.
The Knee/Wittman Health and Mental Health Achievement Awards - Given to individuals and groups for outstanding contributions in the field of health and mental health. NASW chapters, individuals and social welfare organizations may nominate candidates for these awards.

The deadline for submitting a complete nomination package is April 16, 2004. Late nominations will not be accepted.

Foundation Awards

The NASW Foundation is accepting applications through March 15, 2004, for its 2004-2005 fellowships, scholarships and research awards.

NASW Dues Deductibility

Members who qualify to deduct membership dues payments from income taxes should note the following:

For tax year 2003, 10.68 percent of the annual NASW dues payment is not deductible. The percentage is based on the amount of association lobbying activity in 2003.
For tax planning purposes, the nondeductible portion of the NASW dues payment to be made in tax year 2004 is 11.74 percent.

Presidential Preferences

NASW's Political Action for Candidate Election (PACE) has posted profiles of the Democratic Party candidates for president on NASW's Web site. No profile of President George W. Bush is posted, because he is unopposed for the Republican Party nomination. PACE encourages members to let their chapters know their preference for president by Feb. 25, 2004.
