From April 2002 NASW NEWS "This is one of the privileges of membership." NASW will unveil a new member benefit in May that will allow members an opportunity to receive information quickly on member products, services and activities. A new "Members Only" section of NASW's Web site, www.socialworkers.org, is in final stages of development and will offer members access to a broad array of information to support their work and to inform them of the activities of their professional association. "This is one of the privileges of membership in a professional organization," said Executive Director Elizabeth J. Clark. "To have knowledge at your fingertips during critical work hours or to study documents at leisure in your home is a valuable service from a professional organization when current knowledge can be supplied quickly." Before the launch of the "Members Only" section, each NASW member will receive a letter in the mail containing her or his member identification (member I.D.) number and a randomly generated password. Both will be needed for first-time log-on to the "Members Only" section of the Web site. After members have logged on for the first time, they will have the option to change their username and password for ones of their own choosing, said Charles Housen, manager of NASW Management Information systems. Plans to bring more information electronically to members will also include delivering e-mail on a variety of topics. Members will be given the opportunity to update or furnish their e-mail addresses and select areas of interest for updates on their selected preferences. These areas could include advocacy, specialty practices, continuing education, publications, special offers, credentialing and insurance. Members can receive e-mail on any or all topics, or none at all, said Paula Delo, manager of publications. Back to NASW NEWS Contents |
