ACTION ALERT

NASW International Committee Urges Action on behalf of the Children of the World

From May 8-12 a special Session on Children will take place at the United Nations. This is an unprecedented meeting of the United Nations General Assembly dedicated to the children and adolescents of the world. Heads of State, government leaders, NGOs, children's advocates, and young people themselves will come together to discuss the welfare of children and adolescents throughout the world. The gathering will present a great opportunity to change the way the world views and treats children. For more information on the meeting visit the UNICEF Web page at www.unicef.org/specialsession/.

Candlelight vigils are being organized worldwide on May 8 in support of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The NASW International Committee urges NASW members to organize a vigil or join one in your area. To find more about the vigils visit the Web site of Global March Against Child Labor at http://globalmarch.org/index.html To support the ratification of the Convention on the Rights of the Child Call Your Congressman
