Program Presented by the National Association
of Social Workers Foundation (NASWF)
Washington — The National Association of
Social Workers Foundation (NASWF) is pleased to announce the NASW-Pennsylvania
Chapter as the recipient of the 2004-2005 Ruth Fizdale Program grant.
The Ruth Fizdale Program grant underwrites research projects that
link practice and policy issues with relevant social issues, with
the goal of facilitating effective service delivery. The program
provides opportunities for NASW chapters to conduct pilot research
projects targeted to specific emerging issues.
The NASW Pennsylvania Chapter plans to facilitate trainings for
social workers to collect documentation of economic human rights
violations specifically lack of access to health care to use
as support for educational activities and also to support research
to help secure universal access to health care for Pennsylvanians.
According to Rebecca Myers, LSW, executive director of the chapter, We
are very excited about receiving the Ruth Fizdale Grant. We have
been very involved in the promotion of economic human rights in the
state through educational trainings and hearings with state legislators.
We are part of a statewide coalition discussing the single-payer
health care initiative.
She adds , The research from this program will be key to informing
legislators, decision makers, and the public about the experiences
of people without adequate health coverage.
