Social Workers Support Al Gore on Education Policies

WASHINGTONEducation has become a leading issue in Campaign 2000. The National Association of Social Workers (NASW), works to ensure that all students meet their highest potential regardless of economic, racial, cultural or ethnic differences. All children have the right to a high quality education. NASW believes Al Gore will share that goal.

Social workers know students bring more to school than their books and pencils; they bring unresolved personal, emotional and family problems. Sadly, some students also bring knives, guns and other weapons. NASW believes children have the right to learn in a safe, nurturing environment. School social workers, by helping children deal with emotional and behavioral problems, increase chances for academic and social success and decrease the risk of school violence.

Al Gores plan to save our schools and NASWs educational priorities put children and their education first. With family and community involvement, all children and schools will meet success in 2000 and the future.
