International Women’s Rights
Women’s contributions fuel economies, stabilize families and communities and spur productivity. The global women’s movement embraces these facts and yet the status of women remains unequal. NASW recognizes the wide range of issues that affect women and is committed to advancing policies and practices to improve the status and well-being of all women. NASW strongly supports a number of international women’s rights efforts, including: U.S. ratification of the Convention on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women; achievement of Millennium Development Goal #3 to promote gender equity and empower women; and passage of the International Violence Against Women Act (IVAWA) in the U.S. Congress. Linked to these issues are other areas particularly important to women, such as reproductive health and family planning.
