Health Highlights

NASW continues to focus on enhancing the role, visibility, understanding, skill development, and advocacy of social workers in health care settings.

Recently, the Association’s activities include:

  • NASW continues as a Planning Committee member for the 2004 National Conference on Health Care and Domestic Violence, the biennial conference targeting health/mental health care providers regarding intimate partner abuse. Scheduled for March 2004, this program attracts physicians, social workers, allied mental health care providers, dentists, nurses, nurse practitioners, and advocates interested in discussing ways to prevent and respond to domestic violence in health care settings.
  • NASW is a member of the Organizing Committee of the Second World Congress on Women's Mental Health, to be held in Washington, D.C. in March 2004. In addition to organizing two symposia, NASW will present a workshop addressing health care disparities through culturally competent practice.
  • NASW participated in an audio-conference sponsored by the National Association of County and City Health Officials entitled “Emerging Issues in Maternal and Child Health: Incorporating Mental Health in a Public Health Setting.” The audio-conference discussed emerging issues regarding the integration of maternal/child mental health services, and the role of community and government collaboration.
