Bereavement and End of Life Care Highlights

NASW continues policy development, advocacy, and education in the areas of bereavement and end of life care.

  • NASW is completing the development of the NASW Standards for Practice for Social Workers in Palliative and End of Life Care. The draft document was posted on the NASW Web site for member review and comment on October 20.   • NASW participated in a Consensus Conference on Parental Presence During CPR and Procedures sponsored by the Ambulatory Pediatric Association (APA). NASW advocated for family presence during a child's treatment or resuscitative procedure. The consensus statement will be drafted and distributed by APA.
  • The Bereavement Practice Guidelines for Social Workers in Emergency Departments training is being presented at 15 NASW chapters this fall. Visit the NASW Web site at http://www.socialworkers.org/practice/bereavement/workshops.asp for more information and locations of the workshops.
  • NASW participated in the American Academy of Bereavement's Advanced Facilitator Training. The training offered an overview of and emerging theories and practices in grief and bereavement.
