Educating Social Workers
  • The NASW Standards of Practice for Social Workers in Palliative and End of Life Care were approved by the NASW National Board of Directors, and are now available on the NASW Web site at: http://www.socialworkers.org/practice/bereavement/standards/default.asp
  • Karyn Walsh, NASW senior policy associate, palliative and end of life care, and Susan Blacker, MSW, presented the NASW Standards of Practice for Social Workers in Palliative and End of Life Care to social workers at the annual clinical conference of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization on March 24, 2004 , in Las Vegas
  • NASW and CancerCare ® developed a free online Web course for social workers, which was launched in April. The course is titled Understanding Cancer: The Social Worker's Role, and is made possible through a grant from the Bristol-Myers Squibb Company. The course offers 2.0 free CEUs for social workers. Advocacy
  • NASW joined the Last Acts Partnership End of Life Coalition to advocate for end of life care as part of a national agenda, and to promote the social work practice role in end of life care.
  • NASW participated in the Emergency Medical Services for Children's Stakeholders Meeting in Washington , D.C. , on March 4 and 5. NASW is part of a multidisciplinary group of representatives and organizations that meet the needs of children in emergency medical situations.
