Selected Evidence-based Programs

Intervention Spectrum

Four interventions were selected which fall along various points of the intervention spectrum.

Interventions that target and benefit everyone in the community irrespective of their suicide risk, such as educational materials, workshops and mental health care. Interventions that benefit specific groups whose members have a significantly higher risk of developing suicidal behavior, such as youth who are substance abusers. Interventions that target and benefit identified high-risk individuals or those who already exhibit suicidal behavior, such as a recent suicide attempt or suicidal ideation. All measures targeted towards the prevention of further suicide attempts in the aftermath of a suicide, such as the creation of a survivor support group.

A brief overview is provided for each program in the comparative table below.  For more detailed fact sheets, click on the program name. For informaytion about program outcomes and levels of evidence, click here.
