No New Competition for Elementary School Counseling Program

The U.S. Department of Education has decided not to hold a new competition for FY 2001 for the Elementary School Counseling Program. Of the $30 million appropriated for the program this year, $20 million will be used to fund current grantees for a second year, and the $10 million additional will be awarded to high-ranking applications from last year's competition. So, if your district submitted an application last year, it may be funded this year; however, no new applications will be accepted. If you recall, last year's competition was fierce. The Department received close to 600 applications, but was only able to fund 58. Close to 30 new grants will be awarded this year. The new awards are expected to be made sometime before the beginning of May.
