Contact Your Senators and Urge Them to Support a Voluntary Prescription Benefit Plan for All Medicare Beneficiaries!

July 25, 2002

THE ISSUE AT HAND

Unfettered access to prescription drugs for Medicare beneficiaries is an issue of vital importance to all Americans, but especially to social workers. NASW and the social work profession at large historically have advocated on behalf of universal access to health and mental health care, which includes access to prescription drugs.

ACTION NEEDED

Please call, FAX, or email your U.S. Senators and ask them to support a comprehensive, affordable, and voluntary prescription benefit plan for all Medicare beneficiaries. All Senators may be reached through the Capitol Switchboard, 202-224-3121, or via NASW's Congress Web at http://63.66.87.48/cweb4/index.cfm?orgcode=NASW&hotissue=15.

Once you've been connected to an office, be sure to ask to speak with the "Health Care Legislative Assistant" and ask him/her if the Senator will support a comprehensive, affordable, and voluntary Medicare prescription benefit plan.

SAMPLE SCRIPT

As a constituent, social worker, and member of the National Association of Social Workers, I urge Senator (name) to support a comprehensive, affordable, and voluntary prescription benefit plan for all Medicare beneficiaries. This important piece of legislation expresses access to prescription drugs is important for all Americans, but especially those that are over 65 or may be disabled-- they and us are counting on your strong support. Thank you.

If you make a phone call, please let us know at legislative@naswdc.org.
