CDCNational Center for Injury Prevention and Control
The Committee is aware of CDC's work in developing a research agenda for injury prevention that includes research priorities for the prevention of child maltreatment, family violence, youth violence, suicide and the prevention of unintentional injuries among children. The Committee has included funding for CDC's National Center for Injury Prevention and Control to extend its current prevention research activities in keeping with the priorities identified. Because the study of injury prevention requires expertise from many disciplines, the Committee encourages CDC to collaborate with relevant social work organizations and academic institutions, including schools of social work in carrying out its research agenda.
CDCAgency Wide
The Committee recognizes the importance of social work study and practice to the overall work of CDC Centers and, therefore, encourages CDC to enhance its formal involvement with social work practice, research and education entities in order to strengthen leadership to assist CDC Centers in meeting their mission.

Social Work ResearchThe Committee commends NIMH, NIDA, NCI and OBSSR for their recognition of social work research’s important contribution to our nation’s health, including disease prevention, psychosocial, family and community implications of substance abuse, disease and trauma, and research on prevention and treatment outcomes. NIH should continue to increase its support for social work researchers. The Committee urges NIH to develop and coordinate a social work research plan outlining research priorities and a social work research agenda for the next five years, along with professional judgment funding projections, across NIH Institutes and Centers to be reported to Congress by March 1, 2003.
