Title IV-E Child Welfare Training Program Congressional Site Visit

Participant Roles

Roles for Group to Assign

  1. Send invitation to scheduler at the member of Congress' district office
  2. Follow up on invitation within one week
  3. Write letter to the editor

School's Title IV-E Coordinator

  1. Work with Child Welfare Agency to set up meeting location
  2. Provide information on the benefit of the program to the school
  3. Find a student or graduate to provide personal testimony

Title IV-E Student or Graduate

  1. Provide information on the benefit of the program to you as a professional social worker or social worker in training
  2. Be available on day of site visit to talk with member of Congress

Child Welfare Agency Administrator or IV-E Coordinator

  1. Provide information on the benefit of the program to the agency and its clients
  2. Be available on day of site visit to talk with member of Congress
  3. Set up logistics at the agency for the site visit

NASW Chapter Executive Director or Legislative Relations Staff

  1. Be available on day of the site visit
  2. Provide write up on the site visit in the Chapter newsletter
  3. Post pictures of the visit on Chapter Web site

NASW National Staff

  • Provide fact sheets on Title-IVE
  • Provide talking points
  • Provide background on the member of Congress including voting record, involvement with our legislation and endorsements, if any
  • Provide sample documents such as meeting request letter and thank you
  • Host meetings of core group to plan site visit
  • Assist with media outreach
