NASW
State Chapter Congressional Call-in Day
Having your chapter
members make phone calls on this issue can put it on the
radar screen of the members of Congress from your state.
The process is
fast and easy. Here is what you need to do:
- Designate one day that
your chapter will organize a call-in day for Chapter Members
to ask their members of Congress to support the legislation.
- Have Chapter Members sign-up
to call the member of Congress who represents the congressional
districts in which they are registered to vote. Ask participants
to call both of their U.S. Senators and their U.S. Representative.
- Reminder e-mails to participants
the day before the call-in day can help them remember to
call. If possible, provide copies of the sample script,
talking points and lobbying do’s and don’ts.
- Your last task is to fax
the sign-in sheets back to the NASW National Office Government
Relations Unit.
NASW National
will:
- Provide
background information on the legislation for you to share
with your members.
- After
you fax the sign-in sheets back, NASW Government Relations
staff will follow-up with all legislators that were called
to encourage them to cosponsor the legislation.
- Highlight
your call-in Day on the Grassroots section of the NASW
National website.
If your Chapter
would like to organize a call-in day, contact Dina Zarrella,
senior field organizer, at dzarrella@naswdc.org or (202) 336-8218.
